On Thursday 23rd Jan we will be holding a round table discussion to address the question "How should we respond when we receive a report of violation". We are hoping to get input from our Collective that can drive our approach going forward.
As we reflect in preparation, here are some thought-provoking questions to help us consider what a safer space should look like when managing reports of consent violations:

Safety vs. Accountability vs. Punishment
Should the safty of the collective be the primary goal of responding to consent violations?
What is the balance between punitive or restorative action?
How can we create systems that hold individuals accountable while also offering opportunities for growth and education?
Are there circumstances where banning someone from events is necessary, and how can we determine when that’s the right course of action?
How long should they be banned for?
Restorative Justice Approaches
Could restorative justice be a part of the solution? If so, what might that look like in a kink community?
How do we ensure that restorative processes are consensual and do not retraumatize those who report harm?
What role should the broader community play in these efforts?

Balancing Privacy and Transparency
How do we protect the privacy of those involved in a report while ensuring the community feels informed and secure?
What level of transparency is appropriate when a consent violation is reported?
How do we manage gossip or misinformation about incidents within the community?
Education and Prevention
Should education about consent and handling consent violations be mandatory for event attendees?
What kinds of workshops, resources, or discussions could help prevent consent violations?
How can we create a culture where reporting violations feels safe and supported?

Support for Those Involved
How do we ensure that those who report consent violations feel heard and supported?
What resources, such as peer support or counseling, could be offered to those impacted by violations?
Should those accused of violating consent also have access to resources that promote accountability and learning?
Let’s Start the Conversation
These are complex and sensitive issues with no one-size-fits-all solution. The questions above are just a start on the discussion. By engaging in open, honest discussions about how we handle consent violations, we can build a safer, more inclusive community.
What are your thoughts on these questions? How do you think we can strike the right balance between accountability, education, and safety? Share your ideas, and let’s work together to shape a culture that prioritizes consent and care.
